i rounded up all of my recylible goods and started to record sounds. I tryed to think of inventive ways to do this. cans and bottles were used mostly in this song. I found that flicking an empty can which hadn't been opend made a good sound. this involved draining the can througth a small hole with out causing much damage to it.i used this sound for the kick drum, and you can hear it at the beginning of the song clearly if u listen carefully. I also ripped the can to create a build up to the sample of the tube station anoucment i recoreded on the tube. I hardly changed anything with the sample apart from staggering it a bit to create a better effect. I added this just as i thought the song needed a breaking point where it can build up a bit even though it is a little bit irrelivent. and the recording of the tube fitted in well with the song.Hence why im naming it 'Mind the Gap'.
I made most of the drum break out of broken bottles, and tapping of metal and this really sets the tone of the song giving it almost a tribal feeling. i created the cymbal sound from breaking glass bottles on to more broken glass, this was very fun althougth it did create a mess, i also cracked the glass which is very subtle in the song. I did most of the recording outside, however i tended to pick up other noise aswell so some bottles were smashed in the bath. The main melody is made from a metal pole being tapped agaist a smaller one to create quiet a sharpe sounding noise, which fits in nicely with the sound of the broken bottles. Ripping of paper was another sound i used in this song which is almost unreconisable but can be heard just befor dropping in to the main beat after the tube sample
